Honors
(University & Departmental)
I applied for the University Honors program alongside my application to UW. It was a thrill to be accepted - a real confidence booster after my rejection from my top choice university (NYU in Abu Dhabi).
I have been lucky enough to be able to find many ways in which to apply many of my honors courses towards my majors. This has been a significant factor in my ability to accomplish so much during my time at the University. 500-level linguistics courses simultaneously satisfied university Honors credits, Honors cross-listed sections are helping me accrue my final credits in both Honors and Comparative Religion before graduating. I am not sure at what time I decided to begin pursuing Departmental honors as well as University Honors. When it came to Comparative Religion, I imagine that I decided it would be worth-while having already begun taking the necessary language courses (Biblical Hebrew) to satisfy the additional Departmental Honors requirements. It is likely I only decided to do Linguistics Departmental Honors because I was doing it for Comparative Religion and I like having things balance out. My fifth year at the UW has almost exclusively been devoted to finishing up all of the requirements for my three honors programs. By the time Winter 2015 is over, all but three of my credits will apply towards an honors program. I will have written two thesis's, taken one more 500-level class, and wrapped up this portfolio for all to see. In many ways, then, it seems that the Honors program has been the principle way in which I began and will end my time at the UW. My very first course and my very last courses all having helped earn the cherries on top of my undergraduate education. I am quite proud of all of the work I have put in for these programs. I recognize that my undergraduate career has been nothing if not ambitious, to say the least. I have accomplished in my time at the University more than many others have and that is something I will never forget, regret, or allow myself to feel bad about. I come away from my time at UW with more knowledge than I would ever have believed possible, a diverse education, and experiences which will define me for years to come. My time at the UW has not been wasted. |
