LING499: Undergraduate Research
Winter 2015 3 Credits Final grade: 3.6 Honors and LInguistics |
Honors Thesis: LinguisticsMy departmental honors thesis for Linguistics has been a completely different experience from my thesis for comparative religion. Whereas I knew, definitely, what my Religion thesis would consist of and which sources I would use, I walked into my Linguistics thesis relatively blind. To top it off, I had taken the wrong prerequisite 500-level course. Having been certain that my thesis would be in the field of sociolinguistics, I had taken Sociolinguistics II. However, when I finally settled on a topic (the possible pronunciations of G-d's name in Biblical Hebrew) I settled on a phonological topic instead. Thus, this has been the hardest 3 credits of my undergraduate career. I have started from scratch, working with my supervising professor to understand metrical theory (not covered in the introductory phonology class) and how it ties into the topic at hand. |
