ART140: Basic Photography
Winter 2011 5 Credits Final grade: 4.0 Honors |
PhotographyPhotography was one of the few classes I took which satisfied no major or minor requirements. It is possibly one of the reasons it sticks out in my mind. This class was a refreshing breath of air in a rather expansive list of requirements.
My favourite part of this course was working in the dark room creating photograms (which I have used as the cover and background images for the honors section of this portfolio). The process involved placing items onto photo paper, exposing the paper to light, and then developing the image that resulted. It was a way to transform ordinary objects into something completely different. My final project was to represent "a lifetime." Most turned to digital images, but I returned to the darkroom and created two sets of images which I included as my artifact. The first involves drawings of a tea plant growing and dying as a circle forms and dissolves around it. The second set is meant to represent ripples in water, growing and fading. I used loose tea in both of these sets and a friend drew the tea plant for me. |
