SewingI started "seriously" sewing about a year after I entered college. Before hand I would make simple things, like curtains, and had knitted a few purses, but I had always wanted to learn more and to create more complex things. My mom helped me buy a better sewing machine (at the time, I was working with an $80 very basic machine that could barely handle more than two layers of fabric at a time) and, as a gift, signed me up for an "intro to sewing" class.
I had already made a corset (based on some guidelines I found on the internet) which had turned out alright but with several noticeable flaws. None-the-less I was still able to learn a lot from the class (like how to make button holes and attach zippers). I have since made two more corsets for friends, each better than the last. I have another two in various stages of completion and several more planned. I sell the things I make to friends and family - mostly by word of mouth. But maybe, as college ends, I'll set up an online shop which will allow me to pursue my interest more fully. |
