PianoI began teaching myself piano on an electric keyboard when I was still in elementary school living in Texas. I had a brief stint of formal lessons during high school which I later dropped in favor of returning to teaching myself. A house fire during my senior year of high school damaged the family piano and ended my playing.
Throughout my time at the University I constantly lamented the lack of piano, desperately wishing to continue playing. When I visited my father in Arizona, I was able to play on his piano but these visits only lasted a week and were not enough for me to regain the proficiency I had attained during high school. In the last year I was able to procure a piano for free off of craigslist. It has a few keys which don't work, but otherwise is in good condition. With the help of some friends, we managed to move it into my apartment and I frantically began printing off free sheet-music. My artifact is a video of me playing an 8-page song I had memorized during high school. It is what I aspire to regain once I have more time to practice following graduation. |
