Ling400: Survey of Linguistic Methods and Theories
Autumn 2012 5 Credits Final grade: 2.8 Linguistics |
Linguistic Methods and TheoriesBefore declaring a Linguistics major, you are required to take an introductory Linguistics course. There are several options: LING200, 203, or 400. 400 is the recommended course by the department, and I felt, when I observed the brief descriptions of the courses in the time schedule, seemed to cover the widest breadth of linguistic topics. As someone still on the fence of deciding whether or not to pursue this second major, I took this course hoping it would help me make an informed decision.
The class was extremely eye-opening. I had never dreamed that linguistics had such diverse areas of study within the field. I learned a very great deal in such a short amount of time and was excited to study the fields in greater details as the major progressed. My artifact is some pages from my notes. As a means of studying, I created a glossary in my notebook, divided by linguistic field. This was extremely useful in preparing for my final and as a reference for future classes. |
