HEBR427: Biblical Hebrew Poetry
Autumn 2013 5 Credits Final grade: 4.0 Comparative Religion, Linguistics, and Honors |
Biblical Hebrew PoetryThis class was the first class for second year Biblical Hebrew. Having mastered the basics of reading, parsing verbs, and translating the year prior, our professor, Gary Martin, had us translating sections of poetry from the Hebrew Bible. I always found my classes with Gary to be very enjoyable and this was no exception - he has certainly become my favourite professor at the University.
This class is unique for me, as it applied towards ever program I worked to complete at the University. I was able to obtain general credit for the Comparative Religion major as well as in Linguistics. Additionally, I earned departmental honors credit for Comparative Religion which mandates the study of a scriptural language for at least two years. While not uploaded, the final for this course (a paper outlining features more commonly found in Biblical poetry versus prose) was a great source to utilize in writing my Departmental Honors Thesis in Linguistics as well. The artifact I've uploaded is my personal translation, translation comparison, and interpretive notes of a section from the Song of Songs. I was responsible for teaching this section to my classmates as part of my coursework. |
